Bill Murphy

Bill Murphy was born in Pineville, La., in 1944, but he graduated from Clover Park High School in Tacoma, where he played baseball for Coach Holly Gee.

A 6-foot-1, 190-pound right-handed hitting outfielder, Murphy was signed by the New York Yankees in 1962 and spent four years in the Yankees' minor league system. On Nov. 29, 1965, the New York Mets drafted Murphy in the MLB Rule 5 Player Draft, and he made his Major League debut for the Mets on April 15, 1966. Murphy appeared in 84 games that season, compiling a .230 batting average with three home runs, 13 runs batted in and one stolen base in 135 at-bats.
