Fran Pinchbeck

Fran Pinchbeck was an outstanding outfielder and pitcher during his four years playing baseball for a Peninsula High School team that went undefeated in league play for two years. While at Peninsula, Pinchbeck took part in five no-hitters and two perfect games.

After a two-year stint in the U.S. Army, Pinchbeck played slowpitch softball with the Gig Harbor Merchants for 27 years, also serving as coach for 22 years. He became thoroughly involved in Gig Harbor sports, serving as an athletic director for all area sports from 1980 to 1990.


Beyond his playing days, Pinchbeck served as an umpire for high school and college baseball for 35 years, also umpiring A.S.A. softball for many years. He has umpired for 14 state and regional baseball playoffs.

Born in Vancouver, B.C., Pinchbeck moved to Gig Harbor at the age of 10, graduating from Peninsula High School in 1956 and Tacoma Community College in 1970.
