Howard Davis played third base for numerous
local teams and coached several sports at the junior high level.
Born March 28, 1926, in Oso, he graduated from Arlington High School
in 1944 and graduated from Pacific Lutheran College in 1949.
Davis played three years in high school, one in
college and one year at Fort Ord on the Regiment Team, to go with
one season with Mt. Vernon, one spring with the old Seattle Rainiers
and one with a team in Vancouver, Canada. He played in the Valley
League in Puyallup in 1948-49, Mineral in 1950, Spanaway in 1953 and
City League. He also played for Woodworth in 1953-57 and the
Renderers in 1958-59.
Davis' coaching career included a stint as an
assistant at PLC in 1948. He went on to coach two years at Stewart
Junior High and taught for eight years at Illahee Junior High. At
Illahee, Davis was a steady fixture as assistant coach in both
football and baseball. He also spent 12 years as a wrestling coach
and was a football head coach for 10 years at the junior high
