Mel Manley

A graduate of Peninsula High in 1956, Manley was all state in both football and baseball as a Seahawk. In 1955 he scored six touchdowns against Vashon High School. He starred in American Legion ranks for Tacoma Post #138 during the summers of 1953, 54, and 55 and became a member of the powerful Cheney Studs in 1956 where he proved his ability to compete at a higher level in the Sea-Tac League fresh out of high school. He then joined the Woodworth Contractors for the 57, 58, 59, and 60 seasons. As a Contractor he played on City League championship teams and the regional championship team, which became runner-up lathe national MBC champion. That playing career also led to lifetime employment. Today he is a construction foreman for the Woodworth Company Mel also played football and baseball at the College of Puget Sound and later played for several slow pitch teams in the area.
