Alden Woodworth

Another community leader who cared about baseball, the Woodworth Contractors were among the finest teams ever produced in Tacoma and Alden was a true supporter. His 1956 team won the City League championship in a year which found that league producing a national amateur champ, and the 1957 Contractors of Coach Marv Scott lost the national title game 1-0 in Battle Creek, Michigan. He also sponsored several youth teams. The Woodworth games were family affairs and employees turned out in large numbers to cheer them on, with Alden leading the way. Son John, now the Woodworth President, was a batboy for the 56 and 57 teams. One of the owners of KTAC radio, Woodworth was active in civic affairs and loyal to his city and the people who worked and lived here. Metro Parks saluted him in 1957 by naming fields at Heidelberg Park in his honor.
