2003 Hall of Fame Inductees SPONSOR
Ben Cheney

Without doubt the most generous sponsor in the history of Tacoma sports, the Cheney Studs became famous internationally in sports, particularly in baseball. Hundreds of teams and thousands of youngsters wore Cheney uniforms in all sports. While his focus was on opportunities for youth, baseball was his true love and he was thrilled when his Studs won the national amateur baseball championship in 1960. Too many successes to mention, championships after championships, went to Cheney teams and they were a tribute to this South Bend native who made Tacoma home. Ben also saved professional baseball for Tacoma in 1960 when he helped bring the Tacoma Giants to Cheney Stadium for a Pacific Coast League season, one that would begin more than 42 years of AAA baseball here. In Tacoma it is difficult to imagine the state of baseball and its history had Ben Cheney not been one of us, one of baseball's best fans ever.
