2003 Hall of Fame Inductees FASTPITCH
Butch Corbin

a football running back at Sumner High School, his prep career was interrupted by service in the Navy. When he returned to finish high school he became an All-Conference quarterback for the Spartans of Ed McCoy. He began playing baseball in the Valley League as a 17-year-old shortstop (Sumner had no high school baseball then) with the Sumner Athletic Club and made several all-star teams. He played alongside third-sacker Fran Luhtala much of his career. The Sumner A.C. story was unique because the team entered both baseball and softball leagues at the same time and sometimes played two games (one softball and one baseball) in the same day. Butch also played City League baseball in Tacoma, before he was recruited by the Irwin-Jones Dodgers to compete at the highest level of fast pitch. He became an all-star outfielder for the perennial Metro and regional tournament champions.
