Jan Wolcott

Jan Wolcott, born March 25, 1941 in Leavenworth, Kan., started playing men's slowpitch softball back in 1964, and more than 40 years later he is still going strong in local senior softball circles.

Wolcott played prep basketball and football at White River High School, from where he graduated in 1959, and then played college basketball at St. Martin's College, graduating from the Lacey school in 1964. He continued to play recreation league basketball for 25 years, all the while getting involved in men's slowpitch.

Wolcott has played shortstop, second base and third base during his slowpitch career. He played for Emry Motors from 1965-72, in church league from 1973-80, and for RAX from 1981-90. He got his start in senior softball in 1991 and continues playing to this day. Not only did Wolcott play, he also served as coach and/or manager for most all of these teams.

An employee with the Pierce County Parks & Recreation Department for over 35 years starting as Superintendent of Recreation and ending as Director of Parks and Recreation, he was a driving force behind the Pierce County Foothills Trail. Wolcott retired in 2005 and that gives him more time to play softball.
